GEL SHARE: Glen Ellyn Photographer Exhibits Work at 40th Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts at Lake Ellyn

Glen Ellyn Photos Exhibited by Erik R Peterson

Glen Ellyn resident and business owner Erik Peterson will be exhibiting his photography at this year’s Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts at Lake Ellyn this weekend from 10am to 5pm both Saturday and Sunday. This is Peterson’s first public exhibition of his photography collection.

Peterson, owner of Glen Ellyn based design firm E-lumin and contributor to GlenEllynLife.com, will be exhibiting his work from over 10 years of photography.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for me,” Peterson said. “My wife and friends have encouraged me to share my work and I’m honored the Festival’s juror’s selected my photography artwork for this festival.”

Some of Peterson’s photography is on display throughout Glen Ellyn at Bell’s and Whistles, Cab’s Wine Bar Bistro, Skywriter, Renaissance Art Studio, Glen Ellyn Bike Shop and the Chamber of Commerce office. “Last fall I photographed the Glen Ellyn Holiday Walk and the print has become an iconic image of Glen Ellyn many people have enjoyed,” Peterson said. “I thought it might be fun to take similar photos of Glen Ellyn life during parades, cardboard boat regatta, and fireworks at Lake Ellyn. I’m anxious to hear from residents if the images have captured our collective life experiences.” Peterson donated several prints to help raise funds for Bridge Communities and St Pet’s School.

Peterson plans to exhibit recent photographic images of Lake Ellyn, 4th of July Parade, Fireworks, Cardboard Boat Regatta along with a collection of nature and architectural photographs. This past Spring, Peterson collaborated with the Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare Society to photo-document this year’s Glen Ellyn Housewalk. Photos of the 2009 Housewalk are posted on GlenEllynLife.com.

“I really love looking at our world through a lens and capturing moments in time,” Peterson explains. “The most stunning photos usually evolve from being at the right place at the right time, and having the right light. The subject matter in my photography could be anything - the geometric detail of a plant, a colorful spider dancing on a web in the backyard, a crowd of people sharing a common experience, an adult or child doing something unexpected, or the glowing rays of a disappearing sunset.”

The Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts was founded by the Jaycees as a community service event. The Festival of the Arts is one of the most respected and longest running juried fine arts shows in the Midwest, and has become a favorite of fine artists, a magnet to the community for shoppers, and a key contributor to the attraction and quality of life in Glen Ellyn.

In 2004, the Glen Ellyn Lions club stepped in to organize and manage this event to keep it non-profit and independent. In addition to hosting fine artists in all media, the Festival of the Arts showcases lively performing arts ranging from local students to seasoned professionals in choral, big band, jazz, folk, classical, dance and theatre.

While the Festival of the Arts has remained one of the lowest cost shows to produce, it has never been possible to mount without the generous help and cooperation of the businesses and art patrons of Glen Ellyn and the surrounding communities. Last year, Community Bank - Wheaton/Glen Ellyn became a sponsoring partner.

A variety of activities are also provided for children to challenge their abilities and enhance their love of art, while allowing their parents the opportunity to browse the artists’ booths. Food vendors are present during the Festival offering a variety of food selections for everyone.
