Candidate Specific Questions for Mark Pfefferman

Mark, you were slated by the Civic Betterment Party and ran against several other village president candidates. Do you believe the Civic Betterment Party process is a fair process for selecting village officials?

Some people think the Civic Betterment Party is an exclusionary process. Can you explain why the Civic Betterment process is good for the village? What's your opinion of the CBP's typical selection of village officials?

Mark Pfefferman: The not-for-profit CBP affords all residents the opportunity to serve Glen Ellyn based on qualifications and dedication to the village, rather than financial backing, status or connections. At the Town Meeting, anyone seeking to serve is welcome to present their ideas to the village. After formal speeches, the community has the unprecedented chance to approach any and all candidates for at least eight hours with direct questions on an individual basis. It is a great example of vetting by the actual people who vote - the residents.

The CBP committee is made up of fine, energetic and intelligent resident volunteers from each elementary school district in Glen Ellyn. I value the Town Meeting process because it attracts more residents to meet the candidates and educate themselves on the issues than any other venue available at this time. I will be and have been honored to participate in many public forums and meetings over the weeks leading up to the April 7th general election. The attendance at all of these combined will not equal half the number of people who showed up to meet and vet the candidates at the Town Meeting.

The election is about Glen Ellyn, not any individual candidate. The more chances the residents have to meet and learn about the candidates, the better. The Town Meeting goes a long way in providing this opportunity.

In addition to being slated by the CBP, have you received any endorsements from other Glen Ellyn organizations?

Mark Pfefferman: In addition to the Town Meeting results, I received the endorsement of the Daily Herald newspaper, yet I am unaware of any other Glen Ellyn organizations that have made or are going to make endorsements for Glen Ellyn Village President.
