GEL TEENS: Glen Ellyn Public Library Opens "AWESOME" Teen Scene

GEL_090319_TeenScene

Last November, the Glen Ellyn Public Library opened the Teen Scene, a space dedicated to teens to study, read, or just hang out. (See photos here)

When the new building was constructed in 1995 a wonderful space was created for the youth from birth through 8th grade on the first floor known as the Youth Area. The second floor was designated as the Adult Area. This approach left a void for the needs of the high school teens in our community.

This year the Friends of Glen Ellyn Public Library is trying something new to push more books, CDs, and videos.

The Friends has created a "rustic" bookstore in the basement of the Library to help make it easier to house and sell books. A two-day extravaganza will take place on March 21 and 22. On Sunday, March 22 book lovers can grab a bag of books for $5 per bag, the bags will be provided at the sale.

GEL ELECTION PROFILE: Glen Ellyn School District 87 Questions For Incombent

Questions specific to incumbents:

Question 1:Over the past four years, describe how your performance and voting record on the Board reflected your 2005 campaign platform as a candidate? What is consistent? What changed and why?

Question 21: What purposes do you think cash reserves should be used for?

Terra Costa Howard: In my opinion, cash reserves should be used to balance the budget. For example, if our budget needs exceed our income, we may need to draw from our cash reserves to finance our initiatives. My belief is that is similar to a savings account that may need to be drawn on from time to time. The current economy and the potential that our future revenues will be less than our needs may force us to use our cash reserves.
