Glen Ellyn Newcomers Club Welcoming Social

The Glen Ellyn Newcomers Club will be hosting a welcoming social for new residents interested in joining the organization on Tuesday, April 7, at 7:30 PM. Glen Ellyn Newcomers is a social organization founded in 1952 for the purpose of welcoming people new to Glen Ellyn and the immediate vicinity. The club hosts a variety of social and philanthropic activities throughout the year, in addition to monthly general meetings with special guest speakers. Glen Ellyn Newcomers Daytimer's Group Kick-Off Meeting

The Glen Ellyn Newcomers Club new “Daytimers Group” will introduce new residents to current members of the community who have similar interests, to help them get better acclimated to Glen Ellyn. Social activities will include day trips into Chicago, meeting casually for coffee and dessert at local establishments, as well as lunch outings. Current Newcomers Club members, as well as any local residents interested in joining the Daytimers Group are welcome to attend this kick-off meeting.

Glen Ellyn Friends of the Library Hosts Used Book Sale

The Glen Ellyn Friends of the Library will be hosting its annual two-day used book sale on Saturday, March 21, from 9:00AM - 4:00PM and Sunday, March 22, from 1:00PM to 4:00PM in the basement of the library at 400 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. An early-admission fee of $5 ($10 for book dealers with scanners) will be charged on Saturday from 9:00AM - 11:00AM; subsequent admission is free. On Sunday, bags of books will be sold for $5 per bag, which will be provided at the sale. GEL NEWSFLASH: Downtown Strategic Plan Presentation

Members of the Downtown Advisory Board along with consultants from Town Builder Studios presented their vision of downtown Glen Ellyn Thursday, Jan 15, 2008 at the Civic Center. Roughly 90 townspeople attended the meeting despite the extreme cold weather. Pat Melady, a DAB member, former trustee and downtown property owner joked with the audience that, "it would be a cold day in Glen Ellyn when they would discuss making changes to downtown."

Additional details and a summary about the presentation will be posted in the next few days along with photos.
