A former member and longtime treasurer of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company has been accused of stealing $260,000 from the fire company and using the money for personal expenses and to support his private business, authorities said Friday.

David Garmoe, 54, of the 600 block of Prairie Avenue in Glen Ellyn, was arrested Friday and charged with eight counts of theft, two counts of forgery, two counts of continuing a financial crimes enterprise, money laundering and financial institution fraud, Glen Ellyn Police Chief Phil Norton said.

2009 Holiday Walk with Santa

The 2009 Holiday Walk photographic montage image was released Friday Dec 11, 2009 and is on display at Bells & Whistles Snackery in downtown Glen Ellyn.

The photo montage, taken by Glen Ellyn resident Erik Peterson, depicts Santa's journey through downtown Glen Ellyn including photographs from the bucket alongside Santa. The Holiday Walk is presented by the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce and has been a village tradition for over 35 years.

For years my wife and I have taken our children and out of town guests downtown to experience the Glen Ellyn Holiday Walk. It's a wonderful tradition - watching Santa stroll down Main St., squeeze into a fire truck snorkel, ride to the top of the Christmas (PC - Holiday) tree, then tickle the treetop to illuminate the lights to the screams of the crowd below.

Glen Ellyn 9/11 Candlelight Memorial

A candlelight memorial commemorating September 11 will be held at the downtown fire station, located at the corner of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

The 9/11 observance will begin at dusk (approximately 7 pm), and will include speakers and a candlelighting ceremony.

All are invited to participate in the service.

GEL SHARE: Fire at Glen Ellyn Sunset Pool Complex

Fire at Glen Ellyn pool complex - Fire broke out at Sunset Pool in Glen Ellyn Sunday afternoon damaging storage areas and pool slides. The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company responded to a fire at the pool complex, 483 Fairview Ave., about 3:16 p.m. Sunday, according to public information officer Craig Eldridge.
